Let me preface this post by saying I am by no means an expert, but I wanted to give you my two cents about what to look for when you're buying a fixer upper! Ryan and I spent a lot of time combing through real estate listings and trying to make the best decision when it came to buying our fixer upper of a house last April. These were the factors that I kept coming back to over and over again, and evaluated for each property we looked at.
When we bought our house and decided to rip out and totally redo our kitchen, we knew we'd have to consider appliances, since we weren't loving the creepy, dirty, old ones that came with the place. Ha. The default for kitchen appliances seems to be stainless steel, but I'm just not a big fan.
As you may have gathered from the title of this post... we are officially moved into our house! What a concept - actually living in the house you own!? Ha. This is our third week in here, and we're loving it. The house is still in shambles, with moving boxes, decor, shop vacs, and stuff everywhere. Which is just awesome since our housewarming party is this weekend! Whoops. Hopefully our family and friends will go easy on us - this house is far from finished, and will probably be a work in progress for many months (heck, years) to come!
I've been putting off writing this post, because SO MUCH has been happening over here the last two weeks! We've got an (almost) functioning kitchen! We've got an (almost) functioning bathroom! Lots of exclamation points are necessary! It really looks like an actual house over here, and I never want to leave. We're shooting for this weekend to start staying here full time, and I can't even wait.
When it comes to decorating styles, I seem to go back and forth between wanting everything light and airy, or deep and rich. I love both styles, but definitely tend to err on the light and airy side. For our new house, I've been toying with the idea of designing our second guest bedroom with a richer palate. Specifically, deep, dark turquoise has really been calling my name! I've also been loving the bohemian style lately, and I think this color plays really well with that trend!
With our kitchen cabinets coming in sometime in the next week, our dream kitchen is getting closer to becoming a reality! I wanted to share the mood board that I put together for our white, gray, and copper kitchen. A few of the pieces we ordered have already come in, and I'm so in love! I'm sharing the sources below.
Now that we're in the home stretch of the renovation phase of our fixer upper, I'm getting super excited about the next phase (which just so happens to be my favorite) - decorating!
While I'm patiently (ha) waiting for the real-life decorating to begin, I'm plotting and planning and online shopping! I'm finally finished with the mood board for our dining room, and I wanted to share it with you guys. It's a bit rustic, a bit industrial, and hopefully a whole lot of comfy and cozy. I'll link to the source of each product (if I have it) below.
Well we're over one month into our renovation, and it just now feels like we've turned a corner! Week four was pretty slow and frustrating - a delayed electrician meant that everything else was on hold. The walls couldn't be patched, which meant we couldn't paint, which meant we couldn't lay floors... oooof. So we fell a week or so behind schedule, but we more than made up for that in week 5!
